John + Lindsey | married (10 years!!)

Ten years ago, I married my best friend. We were just kids. Literally…we were both just twenty-two, and had been out of college for all of six weeks. We wanted nothing more than to start out or lives together, so that’s exactly what we did. I wouldn’t change it for a thing. I can’t remember my life without her; can’t remember not being next to her, and vice-versa. I can remember the early times, when we were both working two jobs, struggling to make ends meet. She always seemed to be able to brighten my day; with a sweet word, or just an encouraging smile.

We supported one another: I worked as a baker while she got her Master’s degree, then later, her steady salary allowed for me to try and build up a photography business. Who knew that a few years later, we would both be working full-time in photography, and loving every bit of it! Things get more complicated as life progresses; from mortgages, to taxes (then more taxes), yet we have always enjoyed it…through thick and thin.

Seven years into our marriage, we were incredibly blessed with the birth of Jack, and two-and-a-half years later, Lola. How incredible is it that the woman I married a decade ago (at the time a bilingual early-elementary teacher) is so amazingly flexible and adaptable, that she’s now a phenomenal mother of two, and runs a full-time photography business? Lindsey is not only a phenomenal wife, but she is an amazing mother to our children.

How thankful I am that she has put up with me for ten years! I pray that she can put up with me for at least fifty more! So here’s to my beautiful wife, and a thank-you as well to all of those who have prayed for us, been an inspiration to us, and encouraged us over these years! I am so thankful for Lindsey, who is truly the love of my life.

~John

p.s.: a note about the pictures- these photographs were all taken by my dear friend Lanny Mauldin, who passed away a few years ago, and is greatly missed. All were shot on film, using a pair of Rolleiflex TLR cameras, and these are scans from those negatives.
