wandering and wondering in Rome | personal

I recently had the opportunity to visit Rome for Lia + Mark’s wedding at the Vatican. I have always been enamored by Europe in general, and Rome was certainly no disappointment. In fact, it’s beginning to rival Paris, Barcelona, and Texarkana (jk) as one of my favorite cities! Next time, I’ll definitely be bringing my lovely wife!

I remember an exhibition that I did in France of some photographs, and how one of my professors commented on the fact that they saw only the old buildings: the ruins, the castles, etc., and it seemed that I had expressly excluded the modern additions of power lines, cars and such. I responded: “I’m showing the France that I want to see.”

This time, I decided to not be so rigid in my composition; and that it is sometimes the juxtaposition of things that are two years of age next to things that date back two millennia could a photograph that much more interesting! So this series of images is a new direction for me: filled with strange juxtapositions, light, interesting focus, and a few landmarks…

Technical details: images were shot on Canon 5DII and 5DIII, using mostly a custom-made 50mm T/S lens: NO fauxtoshop here!! There are a few wide-angle shots (either a 24mm 1.4 or a 17-40mm 4.0) and some also using the Zeiss ZE 50mm 1.4.

Let me know what you think! ~John
